The short answer- it depends. We know that isn't helpful, so here's the long answer.
Orthotics or insoles are specially designed and inserted into your shoe to influence the mechanics of your body. We have three levels of insoles to choose from, depending on your activity, presence of medical issue and budget.
Sidas - off the shelf insoles. These are the best quality at this price available. Sidas insoles are hard-wearing, light and breathable. They offer a lot of support and comfort and come in a range of arch support styles. You can purchase them through our online shop.
Foot balance - Available at our Sydenham clinic. These are semi-custom innovative insoles that brings you the benefits of custom orthotics at an affordable price. You don't have to have a foot condition to enjoy the benefits of FootBalance custom insoles.
At your appointment, we assess your feet, select from a wide range of insole models, widths, thickness and stiffness, then mould the insole for a perfect fit in any shoe. Your insole is ready to be worn straight away. Find out more here.
Fully Custom Orthotics, our high-end, fully customised orthotics. At your appointment, you stand in a foam box so that we can take an impression of your foot. This information is then used to create the perfect orthotic for you. We chose to work with Edser labs as we can prescribe precisely what you need, variable thickness's, support and stiffness across the orthotic. It will take a couple of weeks for your orthotics to be manufactured, and you will require a fitting appointment.
Your feet are the foundation for your entire body; often, when this foundation is misaligned or functioning poorly, the negative effects can be felt throughout the body.
Why do I need an orthotic?
Some people need orthotics to improve their mobility and comfort after a disorder or condition develops; others use orthotics to improve their sporting performance.
We expertly examine and assess not just your feet but the whole lower limb, your back and your posture. If something goes wrong with
your foot or ankle, it can impact up your spine. Here are a few of the common foot conditions that require orthotics; high arches,
pronation, bunions, Morton's neuroma and plantar fasciitis. We offer biomechanical assessments to determine the causes of any lower
limb pain and provide you with a bespoke treatment or rehabilitation plan to eliminate any pain or discomfort. Find out more here.
Once you start using orthotics in your shoes, adjusting to them will take a few weeks. We will advise on the best way for you to start using them at your appointment. This adjustment is worth it as there are so many benefits to orthotics:
