At Flawless Feet, we treat verruca and warts with SWIFT®, a non-invasive, effective procedure which uses microwave energy to leave you verruca-free, with no downtime or side effects.
If you’ve tried acids, freeze spray, duct tape etc and you are still struggling to shift your verrucas call us At Flawless Feet Podiatry
Until now verrucae were renowned for being extremely difficult to treat. But everything has changed since the introduction of SWIFT®, a new technology developed in the UK that uses microwave energy to penetrate deep into skin and target the infected tissue, without puncturing or damaging the skin.
Administered by one of our podiatrists, SWIFT® microwave treatment is quick and safe, offering an 86% success rate over other most traditional verruca treatments, with no aftercare needed or unwanted side effects.
After cleansing the area and removing part of the overlying hard skin, we will place a hand-held probe over the verruca and target it with a dose of microwave energy. This elevates the temperature of the infected tissue, destroying the diseased cells, which in turn, activates a response of your immune system. Your body is able to recognise the verruca virus and start its own healing process to get rid of it.
As its name indicates, the procedure is extremely swift, lasting approximately 3 - 5 seconds. Pain levels vary from patient to patient, but most people compare the sensation to that of an injection or scratch, lasting 2 - 3 seconds and then quickly subsiding. There is no need for an anaesthetic or a dressing.
Most activities can be resumed after the treatment, although the treated area may feel a little tender.
The majority of people need a minimum of three sessions with an interval of four weeks in between them to banish verruca. In most cases, it depends on how your body responds to the treatment.
Although SWIFT is a relatively safe treatment, some precautions may be necessary if you are or have the following:
● Any metal pins, plates or replacement joints in your foot or ankle
● Heart problems and wear a pacemaker
● Neuropathy (nerve damage) in the feet
● Very poor circulation ● Your body doesn’t heal very well
● Diabetes but only when is low risk and you have good circulation and sensations in your limbs
● Immunosuppressive drugs, from cancer treatment or rheumatoid arthritis because they lower the immunity
● Insensibility to pain; in this instance, you may have to give you analgesics
● Children under the age of 10
● Pregnant or breastfeeding as your immune system heightens and lowers during this time to protect both mother and fetus. SWIFT might be safe but the results might not be as successful as your body may not promote its own repair.
Verrucae are plantar warts that commonly occur on the soles of the feet or around the toe area. They are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is highly contagious through direct person to person contact. There are various forms of HPV which all relate to various parts of the human body.
Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the general treatment of Verruca and skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue. Microwaves have been in use for over 30 years, and are employed globally in the effective treatment of cancer. The same fundamental power that powers Swift, is also being used in the treatment of lung, liver, kidney and breast cancer in countries all over the world.
